(And a Tutor You Can Trust)
When you are looking for a tutor to support your child, how do you decide who to contact? I think Qualified Tutor said this best when they defined their certified tutors as Safe, Skilled, and Supported. This framework encapsulates everything that a good educator needs, but how do you identify it?
The first thing that you should know is that private tuition in the UK is currently unregulated, meaning that there is no legal requirement for the tutor working one-to-one with your child to have any background checks or qualifications.
At Green Tutors, our values of trust and stewardship set our standards far beyond the legal minimum. When your family work with us, your education and safety are held in trust, and we take that seriously.
- Trust and Safety: Every Green Tutor is required to share an Enhanced DBS certificate, registered with the update service. Thanks to Qualified Tutor’s Daily DBS service, we also go one step further, registering our team for a daily check to confirm their certification is still valid. This means we know immediately if there is any issue that impacts the safety of your child’s lessons, which allows us to act accordingly.
- Stewardship and Support: Our tutors are all required to complete Safeguarding training, extending their role to part of your child’s supportive community. This trusted position means they can act as stewards to flag any concerns regarding your child’s safety and wellbeing. Furthermore, being a part of the Green Tutors team means families are accessing a fully supported learning system, including ongoing quality assurance and a dedicated family WhatsApp group for direct, transparent communication.
What Sets Green Tutors Apart? STEM Role Models
While many excellent tuition providers meet these high standards, what truly sets Green Tutors apart is our approach to the “Skilled” part of the standard.
We actively recruit graduate scientists, engineers, and programmers rather than career teachers. Our goal is to make pathways into STEM careers visible, relatable, and attainable for teenagers. When a student is taught by someone actively working in or studying a STEM field, the subject comes to life. They learn how classroom theories apply to the real world, bridging the gap between education and industry.
Our ultimate goal is Academic Excellence built on deep foundations, not short-term fixes or last-minute exam cramming. We want students to understand the why behind science and maths, building genuine confidence for now and into the future.
Part of this is creating a warm, family-feel culture where students feel known, supported, and completely safe to make mistakes and learn. We match tutors carefully to students not just on academic ability, but on personality. The focus is on reducing anxiety and transforming “I don’t get it” into “I can do this.” We have even been able to match A level students with professionals working in the fields they want to study, giving them a direct insight into their chosen profession.
